Weekend Guide To...Auckland

Get the low down with our Auckland weekend guide!

Lying towards the top of New Zealand’s North Island, Auckland is the largest metropolitan area in the country and home to the biggest Polynesian population of any city in the world. We would also wager that the city probably boasts the largest population of sheep per square kilometre too, given that there are about ten sheep to every one human in the country!

Known as the “City of Sails” for its harbour and plentiful array of yachts, Auckland is one of the most vibrant cities on the Australasian continent and plays host to the Harbour Bridge, Sky Tower, Mount Eden, Auckland War Memorial Museum, Eden Park, Underwater World(!) and more than a few bars and late night venues – hence, an ideal locale for the travelling After Hours Athlete non?

What to eat? Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamb. What else? Auckland is also great for seafood and if you’re feeling in the mood for some fish-flavoured chicken, why not try the Maori speciality of Tītī or muttonbird!

Where to go? Head to the top of the (inactive) volcanic cone, Mount Eden, for a 360 view of the city, go canyoning down the rocky streams and waterfalls of the Waitakere Ranges or soak up the atmosphere of a nation of rugby obsessives at the home of the All Blacks and catch a game at Eden Park.

Where to shop? Head to the block around High Street, the Chancery and Vulcan for designer boutiques - the Ponsonby, Parnell and Newmarket suburbs aren’t half bad either! And of course, where would you be without your local PUMA store? Check out our outlet on Galway Street!

What to wear? Guys can be partial to tribal arm ink as worn by many of the New Zealand rugby team and our fashion mole has reliably informed us that rich, dark reds are the “in” colour for women this autumn...errr... burgundy PUMA Suedes please!

Where to party? Auckland is certainly in the party mood at the moment with New Zealand staging its national sport’s showpiece event, so all you hardcore AHA’s will not be short of an extra ping pong partner or two! We recommend our brand-spanking new PUMA Social Club in Viaduct Harbour – Shed 1 & 2, 101 Halsey Street, Auckland Central...there may even be a few PUMA Rugby stars in attendance (maybe ;)!

What to say? Kapa o Pango, aue hī! Ponga rā! Kapa o Pango, aue hī, hā!

Translation: This is my war cry, I need a refreshing beverage NOW!
