Super Mario Fires Germany to Victory

PUMA Football star Mario Gomez continued his tremendous goal scoring form yesterday as the striker fired his country to a 2-1 win over Uruguay.

After an entertaining start to the match in Sinsheim, Gomez took advantage of sloppy Uruguay play to dispossess a defender on the half way line before beating two men and firing his side in a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. The hosts then extended their lead 15 minutes later with a well taken strike as the Germans gave a master class in finishing. Germany went into the break with a two-goal cushion that was harsh on Uruguay who had matched the hosts for large periods of the game, but could not find their finishing boots.
In the second half Uruguay came out looking to avenge the 3-2 defeat they suffered at the World Cup in Port Elizabeth last year and they played with more purpose and energy; reducing the deficit within four minutes of the restart. Although the goal sparked Uruguay into life they could not find a goal past a resolute home defence which repelled the visitors at every opportunity.
With Uruguay pouring men  forward to try and grab an equaliser , Germany   had opportunities to extend their lead, but were let down by a combination of wayward finishing and last ditch defending as held on to record an entertaining 2-1 victory.
