Another Win for Bolt
On Tuesday, March 18, the triple Olympic champion, Usain Bolt, competed in his first 100 meter race of the season. Although he had a bit of a slip at the start, he found his giant stride and pulled away from his rivals, winning the race in 9.86, beating the previous meet record of 9.98 set last year by rival Tyson Gay of USA.
Bolt displayed his trademark charisma, playing to the crowds (estimated at 40,000) and cameras in his easy, joyful style before the race. The fans roared their approval and showed their love in the stadium that will host the World Championships next year.
Jamaican Michael Frater was second, almost three tenths of a second behind his countryman in a time of 10.15 seconds. American Mike Rodgers was third ahead of Trell Kimmons. Another American, Travis Padgett, predicted as the man who would seriously challenge Bolt, trailed in fifth place. Bolt now moves on to compete in Sunday's Diamond League meeting in Shanghai, where he will race in the 200 meters.
