Prepping for the New York City Marathon

On November 3, I'll fulfill a dream of running the NYC Marathon as part of the women's elite field.

I am beyond excited to be making my debut in New York, having gone to college here at Columbia University and trained for the past five years as a professional runner for PUMA with Coach Gagliano and the New Jersey-New York Track Club.

As new as this experience will be, I hope it will also feel familiar and comfortable to be running through my "hometown." That said, I'm a little nervous. It is so hard to predict how a debut marathon will go. At this point, I have to remind myself of all of the hard training I've done and the attention I've paid to other details like nutrition, strength training, training gear and equipment to make me as prepared on marathon day as possible.

Some things will undoubtedly be out of my control on race day - they always are. Of the things I can control, I'll be sure to keep a positive attitude when it starts to get tough and I'll remember to smile at the start. How could I not? I'll be at the starting line of one of the greatest marathons in the world in my hometown. For the day, the streets belong to me.
