Marco Reus: The Blonde Bombshell Heading For Superstardom

Instrumental in Borussia Mönchengladbach's victory against Bayern Munich on Friday night, Reus showed again why he is headed to the top…

Last Friday night in Mönchengladbach, with only 11 minutes of the game gone, Bayern Munich's goalkeeper Manuel Neuer mishit a clearance into the area between midfield and defence. Without hesitation, Marco Reus, looking like a rock star with his bleached blonde spiky hair, took one touch to control before firing the ball 40 yards into an empty net. The stadium erupted, his team were lifted, and went onto win 3-1 and move to within one point of them in the league.

Marco Reus is a special footballer, but also one who has had to bide his time for international acclaim. Forced to leave his home town club Borussia Dortmund aged 17 because he couldn't force his way into the team, he dropped down to the third-tier of German football, where he developed his consistency and waited for the call to come to return to the top-flight.

And when it came, he took the chance with both hands. Despite averaging a goal every three games, Reus is much more than just a goalscorer. Able to play up front on his own, in either of the wide positions or in a deeper role that he favours, he is a fantastic dribbler in tight areas and also good at bursting away from defenders and covering a lot of ground quickly by using his speed.

His passing in the final third is also a strength, as demonstrated in the 71st minute on Friday. Getting the ball deep, he looked at what was in front of him and hit an inch perfect pass that his teammate converted to make the scoreline 3-0 and secure the victory.

With fellow PUMA star, goal-machine Mario Gomez on the opposition, this win was vital for his team and furthered his reputation as one of Europe's most exciting young talents who will definitely feature in the European Championships this Summer. But any big clubs in Italy, England or Spain will just have to enjoy watching him for now, as he has agreed to re-sign for Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.

Remember the name, Marco Reus is going places.
