Eto'o Makes it Through to Champions League Quarter Final!

Last night saw PUMA stars Samuel Eto’o and Mario Gomes once again go head to head in the Champions League knock-out stages as Serie A giants, Internazionale travelled to Bayern Munich looking to overturn a 1-0 defeat from the San Siro.

After the opening exchanges, PUMA hotshot Samuel Eto’o got Inter back on level terms with a trademark cool finish for his 36th goal of the season. But Bayern, managed by the outgoing Louis Van Gaal soon hit back with two goals in quick succession by Mario Gomez and Thomas Müller; putting the hosts 2-1 up on the night and 3-1 up on aggregate.

Bayern then took the game to the visitors and goalkeeper Júlio César had to perform heroically to deny the impressive Gomes and Franck Ribéry. At this point it seemed Bayern was destined for the next round, leaving their players with thoughts about defeat.

But the game changed after half-time. Inter came out and their passing became more accurate, their movement inventive and increasingly dangerous on the break. In short, Inter led by the talismanic Eto’o, looked like a different team.

After a couple of decent chances Wesley Sneijder gave Inter hope with a strike on 63 minutes that seemed to rattle the Bayern players. For the remainder of the game, Inter visibly growing in confidence, poured men forward and were rewarded for their efforts with Goran Pandev scoring in the dying moments.

Bayern tried to regroup and snatch another goal, but the impressive Esteban Cambiasso continued to marshal his team-mates and guide Inter though to the quarter-finals of the Champions League on the away goals rule.

Congratulations go to Samuel Eto’o for progressing to the next stage, it was by the thinnest of margins and to Mario Gomes and his Bayern team-mates for a great first half performance.

Good luck in the next round Sammy!
