Copa America Preview: Uruguay

Earlier this week we previewed Chile’s chances of success at the forthcoming Copa America, but today it's Uruguay’s turn, as all eyes begin to focus on the tournament.

In just seven days time, the Uruguayans will undoubtedly begin as one of the favourites, especially with master tactician Oscar Washington Tabarez at the helm. As the team showed at the World Cup in South Africa, their game plan is built upon a solid defence and fast, counter-attacking forward play, so we’ll be expecting more entertaining and controlled football from La Celeste Olímpica upon their arrival in Argentina.

With world class players like Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez leading the line, as well as an industrious midfield supplying them with lots of ammunition, Uruguay are hotly tipped to shine in Group C and have a great tournament. The Uruguayans also boast a rich history in Copa America tournaments having returned home with the trophy on a record-breaking 14 occasions, as well as scoring the tournament’s first ever goal way back in 1916.

With both history and a talented group of players on their side, we’re backing La Celeste Olímpica to match the achievements of the 1995 team and bring home the trophy - how do you think they will do?
