The Gabon National Team is a young international team. They played their first international game in Madagascar against Burkina Faso on the 13th of April 1960. They were defeated 5-4. They lost on the preliminary round for the World Cup every time from 1990 until 2010. In the African Cup of Nations, they succeeded in participating in the first round in 1994, 2000 and 2010. Their best performance was in 1996 in South Africa, when they arrived in quarter-finals against Tunisia.
