Will Newcastle Tame the Black Cats?

  • Written on:

The 146th Tyne-Wear derby kicks off this Saturday as Newcastle travel to their near neighbours and fierce rivals, Sunderland in what is expected to be a hotly contested, passionate and explosive 90 minutes.

Both sides got off their Premiership season off to a respectable start last week; drawing with tough opponents, and they will be looking to go one better this weekend and win three points, as well as those all-important bragging rights!

Newcastle boast a near full strength squad with only long-term injury victim Hatim Ben Arf ruled out, whilst their opponents have several players struggling to be fit in time. Ghana star Asamoah Gyan is expected to line-up up for Black Cats and will pose a huge threat on the break, but Newcastle will be buoyed by their defensive masterclass last week against the Gunners.

The Geordies will arrive at the Stadium of Light in a confident mood; with last years 5-1 Halloween victory still fresh in their minds, and whilst we’re unlikely to have the same score line this time around, Newcastle will start the match as favourites.
