What’s On Yaya Touré’s Headphones?

  • Written on:

Want to know what’s on the Côte d'Ivoire star’s headphones during the Africa Cup of Nations? So did we. So we asked the African player of the year to make a playlist for his fans.

Who are your favourite musical artists, Yaya?

Lucky Dube is South African. He's dead, but he was a fantastic singer. Unbelievable. He sung a lot of great songs. I like Bob Marley, too. I love Redemption Song which was on that movie [Redemption Song] with Will Smith.

How about music from Côte d'Ivoire?

Sometimes I listen to Ivorian music. We have one artist, Gadji-Celi, who sings very well. He used to captain the national team before he became a singer. His team won the African Cup of Nations in '92. He has written a great song for the Ivory Coast called Victoire Des Elephants.

Do you like to prepare for games by listening to music?

No, I don't listen to anything before the game. I only prepare by sleeping so I can be as strong as possible and focus on thinking about the game and how to win it. After the game, I want to see my family as quickly as possible. Whether we win or we lose I like to enjoy time with my kids.

If you lose a game do you like to listen to any particular music?

You don't always win. Sometimes you have disappointments in life so whether you win or you lose you have to stay positive.
