Uruguay Reach Copa America Final

Uruguay kept up their amazing run of form with a scintillating 2-0 victory over Peru courtesy of a Luis Suarez double.

As expected the match started as a close fought affair with both sides sitting deep and trying to stop each other playing. Uruguay enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges with Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez looking lively, but clear-cut chances were at a premium. Towards the end of the half Peru began to venture forward and had a great opportunity to break the deadlock, but the pacey cross evaded the Peruvian striker and the game remained goalless at half-time.

Uruguay began the second-half with fresh purpose and were rewarded for their attacking football just seven minutes into the restart with Suarez breaking the deadlock. After neat build-up play Diego Forlan struck a hopeful shot from distance that the Peru goalkeeper parried; presenting Suarez with a straight forward opportunity to fire his side ahead.

Suarez doubled his side’s lead five minutes later after he sprung the Peru offside trap before rounding the keeper and rolling the ball into an empty net to send the Uruguay fans wild! The game was effectively made safe on 68 minutes when Peru were reduced to 10 men when Juan Vargas was given his marching orders. Uruguay managed to play out the rest of the game and hang onto a famous 2-0 victory,

Uruguay now have a real chance of winning a record 15 Copa America championships! Will the boys in blue do it? Let us know what you think in the comments or join the conversation on twitter using the #PUMAFootball and #CopaAmerica hashtags.
