The First World Champions, Uruguay, are Playing Quarterfinals Once Again

Headlines usually surround Diego Forlan when talking about Uruguay but today another kid wrote them. Boom. Boom. With two goals (last one incredibly beautiful) Luis Suárez made sure La Celeste did what they have not accomplished since 1970 and advanced to the quarterfinals.

It is a tactical strong Uruguay we've seen in this World Cup. A team that knows they can defend, they know they hadn’t conceded a goal in the last twelve months and none in this World Cup. But after their opening goal and early lead the South Koreans came back strong in the second half and Chong Yung Lee decided that their World Cup clean sheet was something that wasn’t going to last as he headed in the equalizer. Ironically on a defense mistake.

But perhaps that was the spark Uruguay needed to ignite. They pulled themselves together and Luis Suárez took it in his own hands and bent the ball in a beautiful arch over the South Korean defenders and post. Boom. With an excellent goal, Uruguay became the first team to reach the World Cup quarterfinals and will meet the winner between Ghana vs. USA. Congratulations La Celeste and go Black Stars!
