Ricky Powell, legendary New York photographer and unofficial fourth member of the Beastie Boys, brought out his aces for a one-night only showing presented by PUMA and Acclaim Magazine at Carbon 2012 week in Melbourne.
The Rickster, who has captured memorable images of the Hip Hop, street art and pop culture scene for more than 25 years, was in his usual element – Charming (specially to the ladies), like someone who’s had a little too much candy and absolutely amusing. Accompanied by an easy jazz funk mix tape he prepped himself, he shared some of the most memorable photos he’s taken and talked on and on about his encounters with the Hip Hop set, the cool art kids and the foxy ladies he hung out with (or stalked) in NYC. Haring, Basquiat, Laurence Fishburne, Debi Mazar, Sofia Coppola, Ll Cool J - they were all his folks. Add his comical and snide comments and the slideshow became a totally different experience all together.
The Rickster rocked a pair of his Ricky Powell NYC Street Photography sneakers that PUMA created for him in 2007 and PUMA Clydes signed by basketball legend Walt “Clyde” Frazier.
