Malmo Seal Great Win Against the Gers

Swedish giants, Malmo got their Champions League campaign off to the perfect start last night thanks to a 1-0 win over Rangers.

The Swedes started the better of the two sides in Glasgow and attacked with pace and purpose; deservedly going ahead on 18 minutes after a mistake from the Rangers full-back allowed Wilton Figueiredo set up Daniel Larsson.

Malmo, cheered on by a large and vocal following, then pushed men forward and kept the home keeper busy with a series of shots and defence splitting passes, whilst Rangers struggled to make their mark on the game.
Figueiredo looked dangerous for Malmo all evening and went close to doubling the visitors lead from a well struck set-piece and a rasping drive, following a great through-ball.

In the second-half, the home side had a more attacking game plan and put Malmo under sustained pressure. However, the visitors were happy to sit deep and always looked dangerous on the break.

As the game wore on Rangers threw players forward, but they could not carve out an equaliser; much to the frustration of the Ibrox crowd as Malmo held on to record a fantastic 1-0 victory.

It’s been an amazing week for PUMA teams that play in blue and Malmo will start the return leg on 3 August as favourites to progress to the next round.
