AW12 Hussein Chalayan Collection

  • Written on:

Sayonara, city throngs and daily schedules and constraints and everything mundane and average. PUMA Creative Director Hussein Chalayan gets out of this too-rushed world with his latest PUMA collection. He takes “outer” wear to its most extreme definition by looking at outer space and astronaut gear. The resulting designs are winter classics infused with flush streamlined details, terrestrial functionality, and hi-fi technical fabrics.

Footwear summons the world of inter-planetary exploration with NASA-inspired constructions and fabrics. The colour palette echoes earthbound forms of exploration such as rock climbing and hiking. Apparel is highlighted by functional performance details that benefit travelling in the elements: warm wool melton, lustrous space-drape jersey, metallic laminate technical nylons, digital check waxed cotton, and the hi-impact optic “Space Crash” print (derived from the “Crash” print in Hussein’s Inertia collection). The clothes’ black, blue, grey, and warm winter white are accented by Kabuki shades of citrus yellow, burgundy, and burnished gold.

Inspired by discovery and stitched with innovation, it’s a collection designed to go boldly wherever the day leads.
