Mario Balotelli

The Super Striker

Mario Balotelli’s life is constantly exposed in the headlines. Some are believable. Some unbelievable. Regardless, these headlines are fuel for his on-pitch fire. Fuse that with an uncanny ability for penalty kicks and a personality that keeps the referees, press, and paparazzi on their toes—and you get “Super Mario.” Balotelli has been perfecting his strong, agile style of play since age 3. In 2001 he started playing for AC Lumezzane and made his first team debut when he was 15. In 2006, he made his debut with FC Internazionale’s Under 16 team. One goal led to another and before he knew it, he was making his Serie A debut at age 17. In 2010 he joined Manchester City and proceeded to rack up goals and awards as well as endless headlines, resulting in his now infamous “Why Always Me?” shirt. In January 2013, Balotelli made the move back to Italy to play with AC Milan. Why Italy? Because Italy is where this footballer’s heart lies. At age 18, Balotelli was granted Italian citizenship, making him eligible to pursue his lifelong dream of hoisting the World Cup trophy. He debuted for Gli Azzurri’s Under 21 team in September 2008 and for the national team in August 2010. His performance at the 2012 Euro Championships was unforgettable. But Super Mario has his eyes set on bigger things in 2014….
