Rising to the Top

There are many ways to know that you’ve “made it” in the football world. Many players have numerous goals and countless fans to prove it. Brasilian star Dante? He has that plus wigs. His trademark afro has inspired fans around the globe, and many root for the defender by wearing replica hairdos. Dante spent his youth in Brasil before heading to Europe at age 20. After playing in France and Belgium he went to Germany’s Borussia Mönchengladbach during the winter break of the 2008/2009 season. From there, he took the Bundesliga by storm, becoming a key player and a fan favorite. After 93 league matches and 8 goals, he made the move to Bayern Munich in the summer of 2012. He has since conquered the ‘starting 11’ and brings his well-known qualities to the pitch every week: keeping calm in tight situations, executing great passes, and maintaining that signature afro… On 6 February 2013, his childhood dream came true when he was nominated for the Seleção and earned the chance to start for the Brasilian squad in their match against England. Dante spends his time off-pitch time playing the Cavaquinho (a traditional Brasilian guitar) and working with football causes including the anti-racism-campaign "Respekt! Kein Platz für Rassismus."
