The iconic British telephone box was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott to commemorate King George V’s Silver Jubilee. And this year, they’ve been re-imagined by a host of British artists to celebrate a truly memorable year for the UK.
As part of a new art event called ArtBox, sponsored by BT, nearly 85 red telephone boxes have been given a new look by a different artist and have been placed in different locations around the city. Afterwards, they will be auctioned off in to raise money for Childline, a phone service for children where they can call and talk to someone about whatever is on their mind.
There are some really interesting and quirky designs out there and each highlights the immense wealth of British artistic talent. Take a stroll and check them out or visit www.btartboxes.com for more info.
