The Swiss Express

If you’re looking to stop Stephan Lichtsteiner: stop wasting your time. One of the most notable Swiss footballers, he has gained a reputation for his unbounded energy on the pitch. (Maybe it has something to do with regularly overloading on pasta... Or maybe it’s just in his nature to charge past defenders.) Born in Switzerland and raised on football, he started his career in Grasshopper Zürich before moving to Lille in 2005 when his skills exploded. After many offers, he joined Lazio in 2008 and became a crowd favorite, actively participating in the 2009 Italian Cup win and the 2009 Italian Super Cup. He later signed for Juventus Turin where he continues to play and enjoy his Italian way of life—especially the weather, flair, and dream job. Does he miss his home? Yes. He tries to get back to Switzerland whenever possible, and enjoys the fact that he can roam around relatively unnoticed. Lichtsteiner has also sported the Swiss National Team jersey 40 times and participated in the 2008 EURO Championship and 2010 World Cup.
