On the water in Newport, Rhode Island, or the slopes in Jackson, Wyoming, Amory Ross is part of the action…both in front of and behind the camera. The last few years he’s split time between the two resort destinations, but not this year…he’ll be spending many of his days on a Volvo Open 70, living out a dream.
“Ever since the Volvo Ocean Race added the onboard media crew member position I knew it's what I wanted to do, where I wanted to be,” he said.
Amory joins the PUMA Ocean Racing team as the MCM, assigned with capturing all of the action in photographs, film and blogs. He may be a rookie to the Volvo Ocean Race, but not to the task at hand. He spent his summers sailing in New England, and picked up photography while a member of the Hobart College sailing team.
He’s since rapidly expanded both his sailing resume and media portfolio. Recently, he was onboard the 65-foot Vanquish as part of the All-American Offshore Team for the Transatlantic Race 2011 and the 2011 Rolex Fastnet Race. He was also a member of the crew of Genuine Risk, winning the Newport Bermuda Race 2010.
Now, the story onboard PUMA’s Mar Mostro will unfold thanks to the watchful and creative eye of Amory.
